Psalm 28 - A Prayer of David - Psalm Sunday Bible Study Lesson

Psalm 28 is a heartfelt prayer of David. He begins by pleading with God not to be silent, fearing that if God does not respond, he will be like those who go 'down to the pit' meaning he would suffer divine judgment.

This reflects his deep sense of urgency and dependence on God’s intervention.

He asks not to be dragged away with the wicked, who speak peace with their neighbors while harboring evil in their hearts. David seeks justice and God’s righteous judgment on those who do evil.

David transitions to praise, acknowledging that God has heard his pleas for mercy. He describes the Lord as his strength and shield, expressing his trust and joy in God’s protection.

The psalm concludes with a blessing for God’s people, asking God to save, bless, and shepherd them forever.

Psalm 28

28 To you, O Lord, I call;

my rock, be not deaf to me,

lest, if you be silent to me,

I become like those who go down to the pit.

2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I lift up my hands

toward your most holy sanctuary.[a]

3 Do not drag me off with the wicked,

with the workers of evil,

who speak peace with their neighbors

while evil is in their hearts.

4 Give to them according to their work

and according to the evil of their deeds;

give to them according to the work of their hands;

render them their due reward.

5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord

or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more.

6 Blessed be the Lord!

For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.

7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;

in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults,

and with my song I give thanks to him.

8 The Lord is the strength of his people;[b]

he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!

Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Father, you are our strength and shield.

Our hearts trust in your unfailing help.

You are exulted as head over all.

Thank you, oh, Sovereign God. Amen.

This psalm emphasizes the importance of seeking God's guidance, relying on His strength and maintaining faith even in difficult times. I hope that you take the time to pray this psalm back to God and take the day to soak in His goodness.
