GOD IS SO HOLY! Isaiah 6:3 says, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory."
This year my main focus is going to be on the holiness of God and how to become more holy. The bible tells us that we must be holy because He is holy.
The biblical definitions for Holy:
Hebrew word (kadosh): apartness, sacredness
Greek word (hagios): pure, morally blameless.
Being holy is a defining attribute of God. He is completely separate from sin, He is absolutely morally pure.
Here are some bible verses that call us to be holy:
Leviticus 19:2: "Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy."
1 Peter 1:15-16: "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"
Hebrews 12:14: "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."
1 Thessalonians 4:7: "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life."
Romans 12:1: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."
We are sinful by nature but since Jesus took the wrath of our sin upon Himself to satisfy God's justice, we are made righteous. In God's mercy, He has sent us the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
John 14:26 says,"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
The word advocate is important here. The Greek word used in the New Testament for "advocate" is (paraklētos), which can be translated as "helper," "comforter," "counselor," or "advocate." It refers to someone who is called to come alongside to offer assistance and guidance.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity. His power is evident in the Old and New Testament. He offers us wisdom, understanding and discernment. He helps us to live out our faith and carry out God's work. He is God's constant presence that transforms us within.
The way we become holy is to let the Holy Spirit do it's work. Are you ready to start a year of holiness with me?
Let's pray:
Father, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to us to be your constant presence with us, to help us along and transform us to live holy and pleasing lives. May we always follow your leading and walk in your will. Amen.
Reflection Questions:
What are some areas in your life where you need the Holy Spirit's help and support?
How does knowing that the Holy Spirit will teach you all things provide comfort or assurance in your faith journey?
How can you cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit?
